Bonnie Gibson is self-taught artist who has won numerous awards for her work in gourds, woodcarving, scrimshaw, scale miniatures and other three-dimensional art forms. Represented by several galleries, she is also a highly sought after instructor and writer. Her articles have appeared in numerous magazines and her work has been featured in books, including The Complete Book of Gourd Carving, Beyond the Basics: Gourd Art, and the upcoming Making Gourd Dolls and Spirit Figures. Many tools and techniques are used to complete her fine art gourds. Carving, pyrography, painting and inlays of stone make for striking accents to the overall design. Certain design elements such as carved sand ripples and basketry effects have become her signature patterns. In December 2006, Sterling Publishing will release Bonnie's first book, entitled "Gourds: Southwest Designs and Techniques from Simple to Sophisticated". The book includes a wealth of general gourd crafting information and step-by-step gourd projects. Her web site, www.arizonagourds.com, is also very popular for tutorials, activities and creative inspiration. Bonnie is active in the American Gourd Society, the Arizona Gourd Society (Past President), the California Gourd Society and is a recent member of the New Mexico Chapter. |
