I want my gourd art to reflect my love of the earth and my belief that it is vital to stay connected to the earth and to nature. The whimsical characteristics of gourds fascinate and delight me. I am enchanted by the imperfect nature of gourds and the fact that no two are alike. I blend influences from different cultures, including Southwestern, Native American and Oriental, and utilize as many materials from nature as possible. I especially enjoy making masks, which I call “Gourd Spirit Guardians.” They represent Spirit Guides to help us on our journeys. I strive to enhance and enrich the beauty of each gourd, to honor and give thanks to Mother Earth for this wonderful gift that is the gourd.
