Nedra Denison

Nedra Denison was born and raised in New Haven, CT and spent most of her adult life moving around the country due to her job. At one point in Nedra's career, she had the opportunity to spend several years living in Albuquerque and fell in love immediately. When she transferred to another area she swore to return some day.

Nedra has been involved in art since childhood working with oils until stress on the job forced her to stop working and lose all interest in art. After many years of trying to get her life back together Nedra discovered pyrography (woodburning) which was instrumental in helping her heal and becoming productive again so she could return to work.

For many years she worked primarily on wood. Then she discovered gourds and has been pyroengraving them, as well as other mediums. Nedra teaches pyrography and has written several books on the subject.

Nedra retired from her job with the Department of Veterans Affairs in April, 2007 when she and her husband relocated to New Mexico--she is thrilled to be back. Nedra is a member of the Belen Art League, NM Gourd Society, and the American Gourd Society.
