JULY 2026 MEETING PROJECT – FAUX LEATHER TECHNIQUE

WHEN?

  • 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm

WHAT ARE WE DOING?

We’re excited to share a really cool project and technique planned for our July 11 meeting!

I  love how this simple technique transforms a plain gourd into something that looks like “weathered leather” with a rich texture.

HOW MUCH?

  • Project Cost: $5

  • Please RSVP YES or NO by Thursday, July 09, 2026, so we can prepare supplies for this class/project.

CLASS SUPPLIES NEEDED

  • Please bring:
    • A clean, prepared gourd.
    • Or you can do this on a “closed gourd,” One you have not cut open.
    • Apron.
    • Several paint brushes.
      • One brush at least 1/2″ wide.
      • A brush that you will paint glue on with. (In other words, a crummy brush).
    • 2 colors of acrylic paint.
      • See the above photo for an example of 2 shades of brown.
      • A darker color for the base and a lighter color on the top.
      • Think of “Valleys and Mountains.”
        • The valley is your darker base color, and the mountains are your “high points of the tissue paper” 
  • NMGS will be providing:
    • Tissue
    • Glue
    • Paper Towels
    • Cups
